Doug Koester Memorial Fund

South Dakota sports fans were stunned in 1988 when Doug Koester of Pierre collapsed and died while officiating the Class 11B championship football game in the DakotaDome. Doug was a fine official, a devoted husband, a good father to his three children, and still had time to contribute to church and community activities.
In memory of Doug, a scholarship fund has been established. Scholarships will be awarded to deserving seniors each year. Award winners will be based upon the student’s academic standing, community involvement, and plans to attend college or a trade school. To be eligible for this scholarship, the student’s parent(s) must be an active, licensed official with the SDHSAA.
