NEW officials are individuals who have never previously been a licensed official with the SDHSAA or any other state association in any sport. TRANSFER officials are individuals who have previously licensed with a state association other than the SDHSAA and are now electing to fully license in South Dakota.
Application Deadlines
- Competitive Cheer, Competitive Dance, Cross Country, Football, Soccer, Volleyball = September 30
- Basketball, Gymnastics, Wrestling = January 15
- Softball, Track & Field = April 15
Registration Steps
- If NEW, skip to Step 2. If TRANSFER, contact Marsha at the SDHSAA office (605-224-9261 or marsha.karst@sdhsaa.com) to be added to the SDHSAA officials listing.
- Create a User Account on Bound within the SDHSAA website.
- Complete online registration and submit payment in one of two ways:
- Pay online with credit card – transaction fees will be added to all online payments
- Pay by mail with cash or check – please indicate “OFFICIAL REGISTRATION” on check or envelope
RETURNING officials are individuals who have registered to be a licensed official with the SDHSAA in any sport prior to the current school year. Individuals transferring from another state are also considered renewal officials.

- All sports = July 1
- Competitive Cheer, Competitive Dance, Cross Country, Football, Soccer, Volleyball = September 30 ($20 late fee applied after July 1)
- Basketball, Gymnastics, Wrestling = January 15 ($20 late fee applied after July 1)
- Softball, Track & Field = April 15 ($20 late fee applied after July 1)
