Volleyball became a sanctioned sport with the SDHSAA in 1982. Terry List and Ron Nelson, both from Parker, convinced the Parker Jaycees to host the first “unofficial” state volleyball tournament in 1981. The following year, the SDHSAA sanctioned the first “official” State Volleyball Tournament and has been going strong ever since that time. Sioux Falls Washington was the first ever SDHSAA State Champion in 1982.
