General Cheer Information – Basketball

Meeting

Congratulations on making it to the State Basketball Tournament.  There will be a meeting for all cheerleaders and cheer coaches on Thursday (March 7 for Girls Tournaments, March 14 for Boys Tournaments) on the bleachers, immediately following the first session of games (approximately 3:15 PM).

General Information

  • Only varsity basketball cheerleaders will be allowed to cheer. The cheerleaders must be listed on the team roster within Bound on the SDHSAA website.
  • No sixth graders or below may participate with high school spirit groups.
  • Spirit or yell leaders will be allowed provided they are designated by their school and appear in a school-approved uniform.
  • All Cheerleaders are expected to adhere to the “Spirit Rule Book” published by the National Federation, noting such items as height limitations, no jewelry, no corsages, appropriate attire, etc.
  • Each cheerleader will be introduced prior to the start of his/her own team’s Thursday game only. Please check with the announcer to be sure all names are included.
  • Your cheer squad may have as many members as it wishes; however, you will receive a maximum of eight cheer passes, one mascot pass, and two Cheer Coach passes based on the roster listed within Bound on the SDHSAA website. Any additional passes needed will need to be purchased at the door.
  • The South Dakota Peace Officers Auxiliary will be presenting the “Spirit of Six” award at this year’s girls tournaments, while the South Dakota Peace Officers Association will be presenting the award at the boys tournaments. Awards will be presented on Saturday evening during halftime of the Championship game.
