  1. Minor changes to the Safety Scoresheet to clarify deductions.
     
  2. If a team has two or less male competitors, the team will compete in the Stunting/Tumbling category. If a team is compsoed of three or more males competitors, they must compete in the Co-ed division of the Stunting/Tumbling category. For the Co-ed division to compete for the Overall Co-ed Grand Champion, there must be a minimum of four Co-ed teams entered. Awards for the Co-ed division will be awarded based on the number of teams competing, as listed on page 10 in the Competitive Cheer section of the SDHSAA Athletic Handbook. NOTE: Stunting/Tumbling teams will compete in one category during the regular season with team placements in one category. 
     
  3. Rubric changes and clarifications.
     
  4. Inquiry Process: Upon complettion of each routine, the safety judge will meet with a designated coach in front of the judges' table to inform the coach of any safety violations. A brief explanation will be shared with the coach. If the conference becomes confrontational, an unsporting deduction may be assessed.
     
  5. Require that all coaches, head or assistant, paid or volunteer, for SDHSAA Fall sports complete the NFHSLearn.com "Heat Illness Prevention" Course PRIOR to assuming their coaching duties each school year.

SOUTH DAKOTA MODIFICATIONS TO NFHS RULES

  1. No glitter hairspray is allowed.
     
  2. Hair devices shall be safe and secure. The hair shall be worn in a manner to ensure safety while performing. All members of the competitive cheer/dance team shall wear their hair up and away from the face and off their shoulders.
     
  3. Head judge will be designated for both cheer and dance. Judges scores from low to high shall be no more than 10 points.
